Identity Threats

Protection against theft of one’s identity where the purpose of the perpetrator is financial theft is the principal threat we think of when discussing identity protection.

Threats to our personal identity include:

  • Impersonation of one’s identity for the purpose of committing financial theft or fraud. (Identity theft).
  • Impersonation of one’s identity for the purpose of using medical insurance benefits. (Identity theft).
  • Impersonation of a commercial entity for the purpose of committing financial theft or fraud. (Phishing, hacking, interception of transactions, business email compromises, etc.)
  • Loss or diminution of political rights that support one’s identity as a citizen.
  • Loss or diminution of reputation resulting in damage to one’s social or political standing.
  • Loss or diminution of standing, reputation or power (economic or political) of one’s community, city, state or nation deleteriously impacting one’s sense of pride, esteem or sense of self, group, tribe or national worth.
